Also, I came across www.bookdepository.co.uk. Cheap books, NO shipping. It's awesome! Ironically, I found out about it from a newspaper article bemoaning the death of local publishing houses ...

Never got around to omnivore's dilemma - I meant to read it after in defence of food. I'll put it back on the list. I should also read 2001 a space odyssey...
ReplyDeleteI think The Omnivore's Dilemma is a better book than In Defense Of Food. Maybe it's just because of the agricultural focus which appeals to me more. But it also has a lot more in the way of a personal story. He's a bloody good writer - such a pleasure to read. I hadn't really noticed until I read another similar book - Just Food - which is so pedestrian by contrast. Has some good food for thought, though.
ReplyDeleteIt's taken me years to get around to reading 2001: A Space Odyssey. Well worth it! What is amazing is how good his predictions were back in the mid-60s (barring the sci-fi extravagence).
